



The 2-day Inca Trail is a wonderful option for those who do not have the time or desire to hike the entire Inca Trail. With beautiful scenery, a great variety of flora and fauna and a visit to the most beautiful site on the Inca Trail (Wiñay Wayna), you can enjoy the best corners of the Inca Trail all in one day hike. Covering a distance of only 16 km, the 2-day Inca Trail is not too challenging but gentle and perfect for families with children and those with limited vacation time.

Itinerary
Our hike today will take us along some of the most impressive stretches of the Inca Trail. We will visit beautiful Inca sites and see a great variety of flora and fauna and at the same time we will get to enjoy the fantastic panoramic views of the mountains and valleys covering a total of 16 kilometers, our journey begins in Ollantaytambo by train and later in km 104 through an original Inca trail to the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna an Inca archaeological site, as we go along our hike to Machu Picchu we will pass through lush vegetation that covers the mountain and with a variety of plants, flowers and birds along the way. After some hours of trekking we will arrive to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) and get our first views of Machu Picchu which stretches down the mountain at this time of day is ideal for photos as the place is with fewer tourists, then continue our hike to Machu Picchu and finally bus to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night in a hotel.
We wake up very early and take one of the first buses back to Machu Picchu, then we will have a guided tour for about 3 hours in which you will know all its history and its surrounding sectors surrounding the citadel, after your tour you will have free time to re-explore the site on your own, later we will take bus to the town of Aguas Calientes and finally train back to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cusco.

The trek is moderately challenging. It involves 5–7 hours of hiking on the first day, including several stone stairs and uphill sections. While it’s not as tough as the 4-day version, a decent level of fitness is recommended.
Yes. It’s recommended to spend at least 2 days in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before the hike to help your body and adjust to the altitude and avoid altitude sickness.
The best months are April to October, during the dry season. The trail is closed in February for annual maintenance. Expect warmer weather but be prepared for sudden rain showers year-round.
